Abstract

The relations between alcohol consumption, body weight and anthropometric parameters are not well defined. The alcohol intake represents on average in many countries a daily energy contribution of approximately 5%. It emerges from the epidemiologic studies and of intervention trials that a moderate and regular alcoholic beverage consumption and in particular beer intake, does not induce weight gain nor even of increase in the waist-to-hip ratio. In contrast, the moderate consumers (less than 20 g of alcohol per day for the women and less than 30 g for the men) are thinner than teetotallers or heavy drinkers without having limited their energy intakes from others nutriments.
