Abstract
Background: Epidemiological studies suggest that diet is associated with risk of cancer. On the other hand some foods may have a cancer prevention rol. Methods: Published literature for the relationship between diet and cancer was reviewed. Results: Adequate intakes of fruit, vegetables, cereals and some micronutrients probably lower the risk for several types of cancer as well as regular physical activity. For others factors such as meat, fibber and vitamins, the relationship is not clear yet. Conclusions: Adequate and varied diet including plenty of fruit, vegetables, and cereals with physical activity and to restrict consumption of alcohol are recommendations for cancer prevention.
